Volunteer Opportunities

Friends of Franklin County State Parks

The three parks supported by the Friends of Franklin County State Parks provide many volunteer opportunities for people like you who love our charming communities, beautiful beaches, and colorful history.

Volunteer help is needed with ongoing requirements such as general maintenance and museum assistance, as well as with one-day events like periodic beach clean-ups.

Please browse through the volunteer opportunities below and contact the representative for each park to discuss the best involvement for you.

FOFCSP - General

  • Social Media - The Friends organization strives to maintain up-to-date information on social media as well as on our website.  We are in need of volunteer assistance with maintaining our Facebook page and Instagram account.
  • Gardening - Volunteers are needed to assist with landscape planting and maintenance at the Orman House, Chapman Botanical Garden, and the Gorrie Museum.

St. George Island State Park

  • Ranger Station Assistance - Work alongside park rangers to communicate with visitors and staff, collect fees, perform clerical tasks.
  • Maintenance - Help with general maintenance and facilities upkeep, including painting, repairs, and construction.
  • Park Opening and Closing - Help maintain a neat and orderly appearance of park grounds and buildings.
  • Resource Management - Perform morning sea turtle patrol (May through September only).
  • Campground Hosting (resident position * ) - Clean campsites and facilities when campers depart.

Orman House, Chapman Botanical Garden, Three Soldiers Detail South

  • Both local and resident * volunteers are needed to work with park staff in the historic Orman House as museum docents and tour guides, and to help with grounds maintenance and landscaping (planting, mowing, trimming, weeding).

John Gorrie Museum

  • Museum docents are needed to assist visitors to this museum honoring the inventor of mechanical refrigeration.
